Where did the idea come from?

The piece originated as a twenty-minute physical theatre performance without any speech. We were asked to devise a piece based on what ‘preoccupied’ us: it could be about absolutely anything! We decided that we would use one of the most universal ‘preoccupations’... the process of dying and the moment when you cross from life into death.

What is different about your show, what can an audience expect to see?The show explores the chemistry of dying, and we present some of these chemical brain processes through physical movement. Our audiences can expect to see a thought provoking piece with some beautiful movement and dialogue. What does one of your rehearsals look or sound like?We have a brilliant cast, so we have a lot of fun in rehearsals! We’re usually doing some a bit abstract, like asking our ensemble to become ‘echoes’ of a lost childhood or to form a human brain with their bodies.

What is favourite show you have seen, excluding your own?The best show I’ve seen was Your Last Breath by Curious Directive. It was a beautiful piece with a live pianist, and they used media in ways that I’d never seen before. That was the show that made me realise that I wanted to incorporate film into performance!
