The Bloody Square is a devised, ensemble theatre performance which aims to raise the aspirations of school and college students, by telling the story of a young girl who is fighting for her right to be educated. The show has been created by Concadia Theatre Company, which is made up from 3rd year Acting students and professional theatre director Rew Lowe, with his company Paradise Arenas. The show’s costume design, props and technical support was delivered by Theatre Production students. This project is a result from a collaboration with the Widening Participation Office at Bath Spa; Concadia company member Poppy Marples, 3rd year Acting student explains the starting point of the project “the show is inspired by the story of Malala, a Pakistani girl who was shot for standing up for her right to get an education, her story moved us so much that we wanted to show all young students that education shouldn’t be taken forgranted”. The show is currently touring schools in the Bath and Bristol area.
